Born in 1942, Prince Saud will be Prince Abdullah's candidate among the grandsons of Ibn Saud to the post of 2nd deputy premier if and when Sultan is to become crown prince after Fahd's death. He is the foreign minister, a post he took up after his father King Faisal, was assassinated in late March 1975 by a radical Wahhabi half-nephew. (Faisal as king used to be foreign minister, as well as prime minister, and he had held that post since the 1930s when he founded the foreign affairs ministry in Jeddah).
