San Francisco pilot boats are fast, durable and safe
Over the past year or two, we've reported on a slew of new pilot boats. In most cases, these boats incorporate the newest developments in design and engineering. Pilots don't want an off-the-shelf boats. They don't want the least expensive boat. They want the best boat.
Almost all pilot boats shuttle pilots between port and inbound or outbound ships. For these "run boats," time--and therefore speed--is critical, a requirement that ranks with safety and comfort.
Only two U.S. ports routinely operate as exceptions to this type of pilot shuttle service: New York and San Francisco. Pilots working ...
