Staking out a position "between cellular and satellite," ManTEL launched the first section of a new nationwide, marine wireless telecommunication network in June.
The new service is based on digital selective calling (DSC) VHF radios and features private calls, data services and vessel location tracking. The first region to be equipped for this service covers the Gulf of Mexico from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Sarasota, Fla., and the Lower Mississippi River as far north as Memphis, Tean.
