STEVENS POINT -- Rarely do meetings such as Saturday's between the UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire live up to the billing.

But with the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs on the line, the matchup did, indeed, match the hype.

Ricardo Vega's 21-yard field goal in the second overtime earned Stevens Point a 30-27 victory and a share of its third WIAC title in four seasons. The Pointers won their last three games to complete a season-long rally after finishing in last place a year ago.
