Nov. 15--Beginning in April, Caltrain plans to stop weekend service for up to two years so workers can complete a $100 million construction project that ultimately will provide high-speed train service between San Jose and San Francisco.

In addition to the weekend shutdown, trains will operate on a single track after 9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, which could mean delays of up to 10 minutes, Caltrain officials said.

The weekend shutdown was one of four options considered by the San Mateo County Transit District, SamTrans, which oversees Caltrain. The plan ...
