Their house and yard are small, so Heidi knew she needed a smaller breed. She went to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and asked for help. She was in no big rush.
Over several days she looked at more than 60 dogs before she matched with the one they eventually named Molly.
When Heidi saw the black-and-white Cavalier King Charles spaniel mix, on the very day she was brought into the shelter last October, "she put her paws on each side of my neck and then laid her head down."
The dog had been born in May, the same month as Heidi's husband.
