KATIE unfolded the small rectangular paper packet and spread its contents out on the kitchen's grey granite work surface. She picked up an old-fashioned safety razor blade, quickly chopped up the tiny white crystals into a powder, and drew it out into two neat lines about an inchanda-half long.
