DETROIT _ Pistons coach Rick Carlisle said he doesn't want to play three point guards, but Damon Jones gave more than a good account of himself Saturday night against the Indiana Pacers.
Carlisle went to Jones because he's listed four inches taller (6-feet-3, 185 pounds) and about 25 pounds heavier than Chucky Atkins and Dana Barros. Indiana rookie Jamaal Tinsley, about 200 pounds, bullied his way to the lane and Jones was inserted to combat his size.
All Jones did was score 16 points, make four of six three-point attempts and hand out two assists in his first significant playing time as Detroit prevailed, 104-98.
