Byline: GEORGE TUCKER
Since 1789, when George Washington became our first president, the United States has been plentifully provided with pulse-quickening patriotic songs that have not only inspired a national pride among its citizens during peacetime, but have also engendered a determination for survival in the hearts of all true Americans when they were at war.
Two of these, ``The Star-Spangled Banner'' and ``God Bless America,'' were recently and ably showcased by my good friend and fellow columnist Guy Friddell in his informative essay headed ``U.S. anthem's questions still as relevant in these times'' that appeared in The Virginian-Pilot on Nov. 5.
