TGB and Jefferson's Catalog: Two National Libraries
If you've been to Paris and visited the Centre Pompidou or I.M. Pei's new pyramid at the Louvre you won't raise an eyebrow over Francois Mitterand's plans for France's proposed TGB. TGB stands for Tres Grande Bibliotheque. And the TGB is France's new national library, formally known as the Bibliotheque de France. The prospects for TGB are great ones that will rival La Bibliotheque Nationale--the largest French-language library in the world--in both concept and significance.
