Not long ago, the Islamic holy month of Ramadan would have passed unnoticed by most Americans.
But in the wake of terrorist attacks and the subsequent bombing in Afghanistan, Ramadan has been catapulted into the spotlight. Some commentators have suggested halting U.S.-led air strikes in Afghanistan amid concern that they would anger Muslims and weaken the support of Islamic partners in the coalition against terrorism.
