The Seattle-based International Snow Leopard Trust, the oldest and largest conservation agency focused solely on saving the endangered snow leopard, and Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo have had a partnership, of sorts, since 1981.
On that date, the International Snow Leopard Trust was founded by Helen Freeman, who at the time was Woodland Park Zoo's education curator. It was a critical step in the zoo's evolution toward a conservation/education organization, according to Freeman and Mike Waller, director of the zoo.
