GUSTAVE DORES MAGICAL REALISM: THE NOUVEAUX CONTES DE FEE OF THE COMTESSE DE SEGUR *
In 1857 the Librairie Hachette published a collection of fairy tales entitled Nouveaux contes de fees pour les petits enfants by the Comtesse de Segur, whose considerable literary output in the Bibliotheque Rose Illustree series subsequently made a fortune for the publishing-house and led her to become one of the most widely read of children's authors in France in the second half of the nineteenth century. A large number of her works, including Nouveaux contes de fees, are still in print in the Folio Junior Collection of Gallimard. The collection of five original tales was ...
