Yamakawa Industrial Company has developed a waste plastics / wood scrap composite material which is stronger than particle boards made of wood scrap. The composite is composed of a mixture of wood scraps and various types of waste plastics that are difficult to recover for recycling purposes.
As wood scrap is hydrophilic and plastic raw material is hydrophobic they are normally difficult to mix together. In addition, as much as 95% of the plastics used in combination resist fusion the wood and plastic are quite difficult to bond together.
