Amoxicillin-Resistant Helicobacter Pylori Discovered
A research team at Showa College of Pharmaceutical Science (Associate Professor S.Sastsu) has discovered a strain of Helicobacter pylori that is resistant to amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic substance. H. pylori is a cause of gastritis, and stomach ulcers, and is associated with cancer of the stomach.
In recent times, the highest rate of eradication of the bacteria has been achieved by using a combination of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that stops gastric acid secretions, clarithromycin (CAM) and amoxicillin (AMPC).
