Mitsui & Company has joined forces with Osaka Gas Company and H. Power Corp. of the USA, to develop a domestic-use cogeneration system which will generate electricity from fuel cells, derived from propane gas.

This cogeneration system will generate 500W, will draw it's power from fuel cells using hydrogen drawn from propane gas, and will recycle waste heat discharged during the power generation process.

The main purpose of this unit is to provide a backup system as insurance against power failures, and to provide daytime lighting needs. 500 W represents on average just one sixth of the power consumed in a Japanese home over 24 ...
