Figaro Engineering Inc. has developed a carbon dioxide sensor that works at a much reduced rate of power consumption. It is compact and described as up to one thirteenth the volume of conventional counterparts. This is a solid-state electrolytic type carbon dioxide sensor

The sensor can be utilised as an indicator of degrees of pollution in working environments, and can also be utilised in home electrical appliances such as air-conditioning and ventilation systems.

Traditionally an optical analyser has frequently been employed to measure carbon dioxide concentrations, but it tends to be rather large, costly, and in need of regular maintenance.
