Laser frequencies measured using light emitted by ultrashort pulse lasers.(Japan's National Metrology Institute)(Brief Article)

Japan's National Metrology Institute acknowledges it's debt to the discovery made in 1999 by Professor Hansch of Germany's Max-Planck Institut fur Quantenoptik. Which demonstrated that laser frequencies could be measured using light emitted by ultrashort pulse lasers. As a result the National Metrology Institute set about a corresponding R & D project for measuring frequencies based on the German discovery, and has become the fifth institute to develop a successful technique, following two successes in Germany, and two successes in the USA.
