Who was Sarah Josepha Hale, and why should we appreciate her on Thanksgiving Day?
A comment by the Rev. Jack Niemi sent me searching through history and eventually led me to discover Hale's contribution to Thursday's holiday.
During a recent Rotary Club meeting, Niemi mentioned that President Abraham Lincoln was responsible for setting aside Thanksgiving as a national holiday during some of America's darkest days of the Civil War.
