The Colorado Rockies could benefit on the field if major league owners are allowed to move ahead with contraction.
A scenario that is gaining strength would have the Rockies move from the National League West to the NL Central.
Arizona can be switched to the American League without its consent, but the Diamondbacks are lobbying to remain in the NL. The chances of them getting their wish have been enhanced by indications from the Florida Marlins that they would be willing to shift to the AL.
