Thirteen of Philadelphia's finest chefs competed yesterday for the coveted spatula adorned, stainless steel and wood plaque in the Sixth Annual Gourmet Cheese Steak Competition held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lobby of Wyndham Philadelphia at Franklin Plaza. Anthony Bonett, executive chef of Opus 251, took first place with a braised beef short rib and oxtail cheese steak with porcini mushroom, sotto cenere cheese on black pepper and parmesan bread.
Thanks to generous donations from each chef's restaurant, this year's event raised $4,600, a Gourmet Cheese Steak Competition record. Proceeds from the event were given ...
