Controversy continues over plastic punch-card voting systems used in some Illinois and Florida jurisdictions, more than a year after the 2000 general election.
Voting officials are blaming a California-based election supply house for polycarbonate templates that allegedly caused mispunches or hanging chads and may have affected the counting of presidential ballots.
Election Data Corp. of Valley Center, Calif., supplied the templates to Chicago and Cook County in Illinois and several Florida counties. A major Miami Herald analysis revisited the complexities Nov. 12.
