Article: NIPPON STEEL TO RECYCLE MORE PLASTIC WASTE AT 2 PLANTS.

TOKYO, Nov 21 Asia Pulse - Nippon Steel Corp. (TSE:5401) announced Tuesday it will enlarge its plastic waste recycling business by adding two more plants to the operation.

Japan's largest steelmaker will invest some 4 billion yen (US$32.6 million) in the plants to boost processing capacity to 120,000 tons a year.

Based at Yahata, Fukuoka Prefecture and Muroran, Hokkaido, the plants will be equipped with facilities to remove non-plastic materials from waste, before crushing, removing chlorine and then processing at high temperatures in coke furnaces.

Due to become operable by June 2002, each plant will have an annual capacity of 20,000 tons.
