New furnace test method means marketing headaches
ARLINGTON, Va. -- Even though virtually all gas furnace manufacturers now can supply equipment that meets or exceeds the future federal AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) minimum of 78% for residential units, new test method changes could mean real marketing headaches for many of them.
According to Jack P. Langmead, vice president and director of technical services for the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA), the test method changes -- which became effective Sept. 5 -- mean that a substantial number of furnace models no longer will qualify for a growing number of gas utility rebate ...
