When Lance Mandelbaum, the owner of True Type Printing, Long Island City, N.Y., decided to update his company's image with a new logo, he enlisted the help of students at two local graphics arts schools by offering cash prizes for the top three designs.
"When we first started talking about redoing our image, we were advised that if we went to a public relations company, we would get two or three artists' input. Running a contest allowed us to have various mindsets to pick from," he explains. "Many of the entries were absolutely excellent.
"After much agonizing," Mr. Mandelbaum says, "we chose the first, second, and third place winners."
