SAN JOSE, CALIF. _ Dr. Gul Ahmed Zikria has a thriving gynecological and obstetrics practice in Milpitas, Calif. David Hamid is a Silicon Valley engineer. Abdulhay Khayoumy tends to his balcony garden in San Ramon, Calif.
The three Afghan-Americans are all cousins, and all three trace their lineage back to the first king of Afghanistan.
"That and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee," quips Zikria.
The Afghan royal family, led by 86-year-old King Mohammad Zahir is a huge clan, with hundreds of people living in Europe and the United States, including the Bay Area, which has the nation's largest concentration of Afghan Americans.
