Michael White, a former British science magazine editor and professor at d'Overbroeck's College in Oxford, England, has written more than 15 books about science and scientists, including Leonardo: The First Scientist (St. Martin's Press, 2000). Why did he choose to write about Leonardo? "Because I had just finished a book on Sir Isaac Newton, and while doing the research on that book, I discovered that Leonardo was much more than just a painter," says White. He spoke with ODYSSEY from his office near London.
