ANAHEIM, Calif. _ About 140 men and 35 women are crowded in separate sections of the Al-Ansar mosque for the Friday midday prayers.
The worship hall is tucked in an industrial area of North Anaheim, a roughly 3,000-square-foot warehouse where the ceiling tiles have yellow mildew stains and rickety ceiling fans offer the only respite from the stuffiness when the hall is packed with people.
A donation box with several drop slots, including one marked the "New Masjid (Mosque) Project," stands near the entrance.
