2001 DEC 7 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Using miniaturized chips that make snapshots of the activity of thousands of genes at once, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute scientists have divided lung cancers into new categories based on their gene functions rather than the cells' appearance under a microscope.
The researchers say it's a first step toward a more useful classification of lung cancers that could yield sharper diagnoses and better treatments for the number one cancer killer.
