Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier II jump jets have not yet been deployed to the forward operating base (FOB) the service has established at Dolangi airfield nearly 100 miles south of Kandahar, Afghanistan, toward the Pakistani border.
The Boeing [BA] Harriers providing close air support and strike associated with the 1,000-man force established at the FOB are operating from USS Peleliu (LHA-5) in the Arabian Sea. Peleliu's amphibious ready group hosts the 2,200-man strong 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., whose members comprise the bulk of the force at Dolangi.
