SAN JOSE, Calif. _ The recession may have hammered Silicon Valley's big high-tech companies, but it's dealing a much softer blow to small businesses caught in the downdraft.
There's no arguing that the downturn is putting pressure on the small businesses that once reaped the rewards of a bustling Silicon Valley. And while some small businesses _ mostly those whose customers worked for the dot-coms _ have packed up and gone away, many others are riding out the storm in hopes that an upturn is just around the corner.
