Doctors in Italy combined the use of a standardized ginseng extract (Panax ginseng) with traditional antibacterial treatment for a group of patients with bronchitis. There was a significant benefit seen in the patients who were given both traditional antibacterials and this ginseng extract. Many of these patients had acute bacterial attacks of chronic bronchitis, and antibacterials are unable to sterilize the whole bronchial system. Apparently, ginseng does.
