The Bordelaise bring the '88 vintage to town

"Good, but not great" describes the 1988 vintage in Bordeaux, according to one of a group of Bordelaise chateau owners who came to San Francisco and the Napa Valley in mid-April. Mme. Michele Prats, one of three owner-directors of Chateau Cos d'Estournel and two other Bordeaux properties, made an evaluation of the wines produced in her famous winegrowing region. She added: "The 1988 wine resulted in a good vintage, but the drought resulted in an abundance of tannin and acidity. Thus it was more like an old-fashioned wine - perhaps to be compared to the year 1966."
