We in the media justly get plenty of heat for all the things we do wrong, but every now and then we get a chance to help the little guy.
Guys like John Schuett and Andrea Montovani, who lost their jobs during layoffs at San Jose's Valiant Networks a few months ago, then got word that Valiant wanted them to return their signing bonuses. The telecom consulting firm even threatened to call in a collection agency.
Schuett, Montovani and former colleagues in the same boat got good news Monday: They'll get to keep their money after all.
And, in an ironic twist that some might call karmic, Valiant has gone belly up and is being liquidated.
