Sociedad Metalurgica Arrigoni Hermanos, as representative of 18 companies in the steel industry, publicly disagreed with the Huachipato and Gerdau Aza companies' request for protective measures against imported steel. Any protective measure for the steel industry will affect the US$250mil to US$400mil steel imports per year by Chile's small steel manufacturing companies and raise their costs to levels where its exports could not compete any more.
