2001 DEC 11 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- SuperGen, Inc., announced that data from a Phase I/II study of its anticancer drug pentostatin (Nipent) in combination with cyclophosphamide showed a 73% (16/22) response rate in patients who suffer from chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
"In 41% of evaluable patients, the response to this salvage regimen was superior to the response achieved with any other treatment, including the patients' initial therapy," said Mark Weiss, MD, an associate attending physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York, and the study's lead investigator.
