2001 DEC 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Steroid nasal sprays reduce allergic inflammation and are more effective than antihistamines in treating seasonal allergies on an as-needed basis, according to an article in the November 26, 2001, issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Robert M. Naclerio, MD, from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and colleagues studied 88 people with fall seasonal allergic rhinitis to compare the effectiveness of as-needed use of histamine 1 (H1) receptor antagonists (loratadine) with that of intranasal corticosteroid (fluticasone propionate) in allergy management.
