Fruit Bat Colony By Day
High above its gloom
this forest is all hung
with head-down ginger bats
like big leather bees.
In sun to stay drowsy
daylong in slow dangle
chi-chi as monkeys
they blow on sad tin horns
glide, nurture babies, sleep,
waiting for their real lives.
