Article: I'm no servant, says Charles race-row butler.

Byline: MARTIN MCGLOWN

PRINCE CHARLES'S head butler today said he was "offended" at being labelled a servant and painted a cosy picture of life in the royal household.

Bernard Flannery was giving evidence at an employment tribunal which is examining claims that the Prince's former personal secretary, Elizabeth Burgess, was hounded out of her job at Highgrove because of racial and sex discrimination.

He was asked to comment on a statement made yesterday by Mrs Burgess, who is black, when she said: "We are not employees - we are servants.

Being a servant is bad enough to be a black servant is worse."
