PITTSBURGH -- CONSOL Energy Inc.'s Eighty-Four Mining Company subsidiary has resumed production of coal with a longwall mining system at its Mine 84 near Washington, Pa., nearly one month ahead of the projected schedule. The longwall operation began on midnight shift December 8, 2001.

The mine produces steam coal for electricity generation from the Pittsburgh #8 seam. It has historically produced approximately 5 million tons annually.
