Accreditation is an inevitable response to the phenomenal development of dermatologic surgery It is a good thing.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has a responsibility to adapt to current changes in medical practice and to exert its influence by monitoring and regulating training programs. It does not create a subspecialty but, rather, reacts to the development of one. Through ACGME, the Dermatology Residency Review Committee (RRC) develops core curricula for residents and fellows and accredits training programs on an ongoing basis.
