PORTLAND, ORE. -- Patients with atopic dermatitis have a much lower risk of hypertension than does the general population, Dr. Masami Uehara said at an international symposium on atopic dermatitis.
"It appears that rarity of hypertension is a primary feature of the disease," said Dr. Uehara, a professor of dermatology at Shiga University, Otsu, Japan.
His study of 512 adult, atopic dermatitis patients found the prevalence of definite hypertension was 1.1% in male patients 30-39 years of age and 1.6% in females 30-39 years of age.
