During the season when diamond jewelry tops many holiday gift lists, Americans can feel a bit better about the gems thanks to a recent global agreement. Late last month, a coalition of 30 nations, gem dealers and human rights groups agreed on an international certification process for rough diamonds.
The pact is significant because it will help stop the flow of "conflict" or "blood" diamonds - those gems used to fund civil wars in Sierra Leone, Congo, Liberia and Angola.
