Several years ago, when I got a call from the head of the Dominion Institute, I imagined a rather formal lunch with some retired business executive, with maybe a military crest on his blazer pocket, who was supervising some ancient tax-dodge foundation with a vaguely historical mandate.
But Rudyard Griffiths turned out to be quite a bit younger than I am. And the Dominion Institute turned out to be his own brainchild and a brand-new creation. And we ate burgers and shakes in a diner. Although the history project we discussed that day led to nothing, I've been intrigued by the Dominion Institute and its director ever since.
