Washington lawmakers have been lauded for the spirit of cooperation they have so publicly displayed since the Sept. 11 attacks, but when it comes to the price of milk all bets are off.
"It's a very political thing," said Neil Marcus, an attorney and president of Marcus Dairy in Danbury, whose family has been in the milk business since the early 1900s.
The reauthorization of the New England Dairy Compact -- on which some say New England dairy farmers rely to stay afloat -- divides the dairy industry by the waters of the Mississippi River.
