AS ANYONE who has visited New York since 11 September will tell you, the city has changed.
Londoners steeling themselves against the rudeness for which New Yorkers are famous have discovered instead that their English accents give them near celebrity status. And, when they see the prices of downtown apartments, many are concluding that this could be the time to buy the Manhattan loft or Long Island clapboard retreat they have dreamed of for years.
House prices are static or falling in many parts of New York City and further afield; many US buyers are holding back, waiting for the American recession to end.
