Dec. 12--The Massachusetts Port Authority, hoping to bolster public confidence in security at Logan Airport, will test a document verification system that instantly detects phony or doctored passports and other identification, becoming the first US airport to install the high-tech equipment.
Imaging Automation of Bedford, N.H., which manufactures the $10,000 devices, will install several of them at an undisclosed airline's counters in about a month, officials said, adding Logan Airport to a short list of European and Latin American airports that have already begun using them.
