KANDAHAR, Afghanistan _ Five days after the Taliban gave up their last military bastion, Kandahar was a chaotic mixture of new and old, the Taliban and their Arab allies not quite gone, their conquerors not quite in full control.
As U.S. Special Forces shopped in Kandahar's crowded market Wednesday and tribal fighters lounged on the ample double bed of ousted Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, 13 wounded but still armed Arab fighters were holed up at a local hospital.
