CHESHIRE -- Three volleys of rifle fire and the plaintive sound of taps echoed in the fog-draped hills of home as Green Beret Sgt. Daniel Petithory was buried with hero's honors yesterday.
At his graveside, Petithory was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for bravery, for advancing with his 11-man team against a force of up to 700 attacking Taliban north of Kandahar several weeks ago when the team's outnumbered Afghan allies were falling back, and calling in an air strike under fire.
Petithory, 32, and two other Green Berets were killed last week when a B-52's 2,000-pound bomb fell short of its target.
