When North Central College hired head coach Benjy Taylor earlier this year, the Division III school knew it was getting a coach with Division I connections.
Taylor was an assistant coach at Pepperdine last season, and spent five years at Northern Illinois prior to that. He has also coached at Cornell, The Citadel and Richmond, the latter school he played for in the 1980s.
It was because of these connections that North Central found itself on the same court with Illinois-Chicago last Saturday afternoon. The Flames defeated the Cardinals 93-53.
